A 7500 mile journey across Asia along the old Silk Road

The Bibi-Khanym Mosque in the Gur-e-Amir complex in Samarkand was built by Timur after his Indian campaign in 1399 using funds looted during his conquest of much of India. Neglect and looting led to the Mosque becoming a virtual ruin by the end of the 19th century and the whole place has since been extensively restored and supplemented. Restoration work continues. This is not one of my pics.
